Tasting Notes

  • Nose - The nose on this is very light. You really have to spend some time with it to figure out what’s going on. You get a nutty aroma with notes of almonds and pecans.

  • Palate – The palate similar to the nose is very light but the nutty profile carries over into the palate. I am notes of toasted pecans, sweetened with a touch of vanilla.

  • Finish – The finish is very subtle, lacking a pronounced burn or strong, discernible notes. I get a hint of spice and caramel that lingers.

  • Overall – Light and hard to figure out.

Food Pairing - Penne alla Vodka

Nav’s Personal Thoughts – I'm conflicted about the Workhorse. While I'm a huge fan of Lucky Seven, particularly the Proprietor 14 Year, this pour didn't quite resonate with my personal preferences. The overall profile, from nose to finish, felt light and hard to discern. However, I think for an experienced drinker who enjoys a contemplative sipping experience this bourbon would be the perfect challenge. Also, its subtle nature could be great for those who prefer a smooth, easy-drinking bourbon. I believe the Workhorse would pair really well with a dish like Penne alla Vodka with its bold flavors, acidity, and creaminess.
