Tasting Notes

  • Nose - I really enjoyed the nose on this one. There’s a lot going on with brown sugar, apple, oak, and leather. It keeps evolving the longer you sit with it, which makes it super interesting and worth taking your time with.

  • Palate – The sip is light on the alcohol burn, but it packs a punch of flavor. Dark chocolate, fig, and caramel come through strong, giving it a rich, full-bodied profile that’s hard to beat.

  • Finish – The finish is medium in length with notes of vanilla and oak. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a great pour—smooth and satisfying.

  • Overall – This one is just well-rounded all the way through. A solid pour that I’d happily pour again.

Food Pairing - Slow Cooked Short Ribs

Nav’s Personal Thoughts – E.H. Taylor Small Batch has always been one of my favorite pours from Buffalo Trace, so when I first tried E.H. Taylor Single Barrel, I was blown away by how different it tasted. The key difference between the two is that Small Batch is a blend of multiple barrels, crafted for consistency, while Single Barrel comes from one specific barrel, making each bottle unique.

The difference in flavor between the Small Batch and Single Barrel really highlights what makes single barrels so special—they capture the individual character of a single barrel, and this one does it exceptionally well. Overall, this is a fantastic pour that’s incredibly well-rounded. I’d pair it with slow-cooked short ribs, as the bourbon’s bold flavor profile would complement the smoky, savory richness of the ribs perfectly.
