Tasting Notes

  • Nose - For a rye, the nose leans more toward a bourbon-like profile, with warm notes of graham crackers, honey, and vanilla. It’s inviting and softer than you’d expect from a rye.

  • Palate – The classic rye characteristics really shine on the palate. Mint and rye spice take center stage, balanced by a subtle nuttiness reminiscent of toasted pecans. The flavors are complex and harmonious, offering depth without overwhelming the palate.

  • Finish – The finish is medium in length, leaving behind lingering notes of oak, caramel, and black pepper.

  • Overall – Deep and Complex

Food Pairing - Herb Crusted Lamb Chops

Nav’s Personal Thoughts – Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye was my first introduction to Michter’s Barrel Strength lineup, and man, it did not disappoint. I had tried Michter’s US1 Straight Rye before, and while it was good, it didn’t really stand out to me. But the complexity of the Barrel Strength Rye completely changed how I look at Michter’s. The way it brings together the classic rye spice with just the right amount of sweetness and nuttiness is incredible. In terms of food pairing, I would pair it with herb-crusted lamb chops. The mint and spice in the rye would complement the savory, herb crust, while the nuttiness would pair perfectly with the richness of the lamb.
