Tasting Notes
Nose - The nose is deep and complex. Right away, you’re hit with stone fruit notes like plum and cherry, followed by that classic herbal mint you expect in a rye. There’s also a touch of spice—clove stood out the most to me.
Palate – The rich fruit notes carry over to the plate, with dried fruit notes like apricots and figs taking the spotlight. Honestly, my first thought was that I was eating one of the That’s It Fig Bars that I pack in my daughter’s lunch.
Finish – The finish is medium-length and leans earthy. The rye spice warms you up nicely and ties it all together with a classic rye kick at the end.
Overall – Perfect pour for the holidays.
Food Pairing - Spiced Plum Tart
Nav’s Personal Thoughts – A Midwinter Night’s Dram was one of the first "expensive" bottles I added to my collection when I started getting into bourbon. Even back then, it stood out as one of my favorite ryes, and this latest release proves it still holds up. The tasting notes remind me of everything I associate with the holidays—rich fruits like plum and apricot, warming spices like clove, and a cozy, earthy finish that feels like sitting by a fire on a cold winter night. Pairing this with a spiced plum tart feels like a perfect match, mirroring the flavor profile and creating an incredible dessert experience.
