Tasting Notes
Nose - The nose on this one is vibrant, with notes of orange, caramel, and almonds. It instantly reminded me of enjoying an orange popsicle on a hot summer day
Palate – The palate starts off with an inviting sweetness, almost like vanilla cream, but then it hits you with a bold, spicy punch out of nowhere. I picked up vanilla and cinnamon, adding some nice warmth and depth to the sip.
Finish – The finish is long and lingers like a good Kentucky hug, warming you up from the inside. It really sticks around, leaving a nice burn that coats your mouth and keeps reminding you of that 124.4 Proof.
Overall – Sweet and Spicy.
Food Pairing - Cinnamon Rolls
Nav’s Personal Thoughts – I first heard about Rare Character during Black Bourbon Run (BBR) 4, where I had the chance to meet the myth, the legend—Pablo Moix. Pablo is hands down one of the most interesting people I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to. During BBR4, he graciously shared several Rare Character bottles with us, and after just a few pours, I realized what I had been missing. That moment sparked my journey into collecting Rare Character bottles.
This particular bottle was a gift from BBR5 this year, and I was excited to share it with my friends as part of the 24 Days of Christmas series. Sitting here now, surrounded by snow in 0-degree Michigan weather, this pour is doing a fantastic job keeping me warm. It’s bold, rich, and exactly what I needed on a day like this. As for food pairings, I think this would go perfectly with a warm cinnamon roll. The sweetness and spice from the cinnamon roll would balance beautifully with the bold flavors of the bourbon, making for a perfect pairing.
